January Barware - Champagne Coupes

Friends ...So happy to be writing about one of my favorite things ...COCKTAILS!! Its true ...a hobby mixologist & spirits enthusiast. Combine that love with my equally passionate love of vintage barware, and I truly have a brewing obsession ...including three bars in my house. That last part is absolutely 100% true! (Okay - so technically the guest room JUST has a bar-cart)!! 😉

Wanting to move this obsession into writing and getting barware a little more available on the website,  I'm going to be doing a monthly barware entry (for now). I'm guessing that may grow.

This month's highlight are a set of gorgeous ...incredible, etched crystal coupes.  The "coupe" is a lovely, vintage style glass ...with a bit of a risqué past (modeled after Marie Antoinette's breasts). While that rumor often persists ... the evolution of the coupe shape continues as it ebbs and flows in popularity from the roarings twenties, then edged out by the ever-popular flute in the 70's through the 90's. Fortunately, it has found a renaissance of some sorts as even modern makers are resurrecting the classic shape. Both romantic and beautiful, the coupe's charming shape has proven itself to be timeless and favored. And if you are lucky enough to score a vintage set (like these), then all the better!! Perfect in time for Valentine's Day ...these lovelies are perfect for Champagne with your sweetie!! ❤️

Now what would I put in these beauties!!??? ...absolutely without a doubt a Champagne Cocktail!! While I have several iterations I love, these just scream Champagne Sidecar to me. The Sidecar, a quintessential French Cocktail pairs effortlessly with Champagne. I myself would choose Hennessy as my cognac as its quite bold and sturdy (aged in French Oak) and will provide a good base for adding citrus (which can often overwhelm a cocktail). Any orange liqueur will do, pick the one that you love.

1 oz Hennessy Cognac (or brandy)

1 oz of orange liqueur (cointreau)

a few drops of fresh lemon

rim glass with fresh lemon and partially rim 1/4 of the glass with sugar

softly stir cognac & liqueur on ice and strain out into glass, top with champagne

Gorgeous, Etched Crystal 1950's Champagne Coupes, beautiful for any bar. $110
